WHAT IS SOLAR
PHOTOVOLTAIC?

With gas and oil reserves rapidly diminishing, the growing demand for renewable energy sources has generated an increase in the research and development of solar panels and photovoltaic arrays.

To understand how solar voltaic panels work, it is
important to first understand what is known as the
‘photovoltaic’ effect.

Put simply, it is the generation of an electrical current in a material as a result of exposure to light. The radiation in sunlight causes the material to eject electrons from its surface. These electrons are transferred between valence and conduction bands, creating a voltage.

Solar panels produce direct current electricity from the PV effect. Using an inverter, the direct current (DC) electricity is converted in to alternating current (AC) electricity, which is the form of current used in the majority of homes across the UK.

The benefits of domestic solar panel
installation are numerous.

In addition to the environmental advantages, the use of appliances such as solar tiles can significantly reduce your energy bills. And thanks to the Feed -In Tariff scheme, it can even earn you extra income, as the excess electricity that these systems can generate can be sold to the National Grid.

At WRS, we specialise in the installation of photovoltaic systems into domestic and business premises across the whole of the North East and yorkshire. While there is some initial outlay to consider, a solar panel installation will soon pay for itself.
